HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND!
As I watch big blobs of snow fall from a solid gray sky out the windows in front of me, I wonder what you are doing this weekend, which is predicted to be pretty wet for much of the U.S. For years, I have been hearing that our dry areas will get more dry -- but this year has certainly proved to be the exception. It has been wet here in the high desert. One of the wettest years this area has seen in a very long time.
It seems that the grand prognosticators of our future are actually pretty confused when it comes to predicting what this planet is going to do when. With social media, TV, disaster movies, and advertising constantly predicting doom and gloom -- it is easy to get caught up and feel scared or depressed.
But more than ever lately, I am feeling comforted. There is a "grand plan" in all of this -- somehow, we are part of something much bigger than we are. Jesus said God is Love. Love is always present in our lives. No matter the challenges we face, Love is seeing us through whatever comes up.
We all know that these bodies come with an expiration date. We can’t help that or avoid it. We are like flowers or leaves on the trees. Like all living things, we have a defined life cycle -- born, blossom, bloom, age, wither, die.
Impermanence and uncertainty
When we see ourselves as part of that flow of existence, we gain the understanding of impermanence. Everything is impermanent, changing, in constant flux. Perhaps part of our lesson here is to flow with uncertainty. We have no choice. It is the nature of life, itself.
So… here is my advice to both you and me for this weekend (and for the rest of your life): Bite into every day and suck the juice out of every morsel. There is no reason to live in fear. Move through your cycle, shining as brightly as you can, for as long as you can, and try to make a difference to make the world a better place.
I read a great quote the other day by Deepak Chopra in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: "The past, present and future are all properties of consciousness. The past is recollection, memory. The future is anticipation; the present is awareness. Therefore, time is the movement of thought. Both past and future are born in the imagination; only the present - which is awareness - is real and eternal."
Now is the time to look ahead fearlessly. The future is full of meaning, purpose and fulfillment. You have a destiny, whether you know it or not. You have a reason for being here. Know that, no matter what challenges lie ahead, you will face them as they come, confident that you have what you need to meet each one with determination, fortitude and joy. You’ve got this!
Most importantly, know that you are not alone. We are all in this together. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey.
